MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has vowed to support the Quezon City government’s projects, including bike lane and sidewalk improvement.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte recently visited MMDA Chairman Romando Artes and general manager Nicolas Torre III at the agency’s headquarters in Pasig.
Belmonte discussed with them the proposed infrastructure projects in Quezon City, such as the improvement of the bicycle lane and sidewalk from C.P. Garcia Avenue to Aurora Boulevard.
A pedestrian corridor along Visayas Avenue would be funded by the Department of Transportation, according to Belmonte.
They also discussed the city government’s plan to establish more parks and open spaces, as well as putting up water detention basins as part of flood control mitigation.
For his part, Artes laid down the MMDA’s plan to transform Metro Manila into a “sponge city,” being able to absorb, store and reuse excess rainwater to prevent flooding.
The project would be financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the MMDA said.
