MANILA, Philippines — A 15-year-old Grade 9 student who has been missing for nearly a week was found dead at a private compound in Barangay Santolan, Pasig on Monday.
Police said the victim was last seen on March 18. Her body was discovered by a special investigating team handling her disappearance.
Initial police probe showed the decomposing body of a girl that matched the description of the missing minor.
The girl was found hanging from a tree with a nylon cord looped around her neck inside the compound, said to be a factory.
Pasig police chief Col. Hendrix Mangaldan earlier said the victim’s family was able to identify her, based on personal belongings found at the scene.
Authorities said the body would still undergo DNA analysis and dental record checking for confirmation.
Police said the Pasig emergency unit conducted an initial medical assessment. The Eastern Police District forensic unit inspected the crime scene.
The girl’s father earlier appealed for public help on social media, saying she was last seen heading to a mall in Marikina after leaving school in Quezon City.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of death, pending autopsy results.
Police did not rule out foul play.
