TUGUEGARAO CITY — The seven individuals aboard the fishing boat Ren-Zen 2, that was reported missing after failing to arrive in Calayan Island on Jan. 15, have been located and are all in good condition, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office (CPIO) reported on Sunday.
In the CPIO-Teleradyo's interview with Joe Robert Arirao of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Calayan Island, medical attention was immediately given to the seven people who were spotted on Jan. 17 with their boat on Dalupiri Island, waiting for the weather to improve before continuing their voyage to Dilam in Calayan.
"Based on Dalupiri Island officials' report, while the seven individuals were sailing to Calayan, their boat had a breakdown on the coast between Calayan and Dalupiri so they decided to go to the shore of Dalupiri Island because it was the closest they can go," Arirao said.
Arirao said that the five crew members were able to repair their boat to reach Dalupiri. The residents there gave them assistance but they were not able to call or text for help because there was no signal on the island.
"There was enough food for them to eat while at sea which they brought from mainland Cagayan," Arirao added.
