MANILA, Philippines — Beauty queen-doctor Gabrielle Alexis Henry, Jamaica's delegate to the recent Miss Universe 2025 pageant, has safely returned home and is continuing her recovery from a nasty fall during the competition's preliminary round.
The preliminaries took place last November 19 in Thailand's Impact Challenger Hall just hours after the National Costume segment. After finishing her walk in the evening gown portion, Gabrielle stumbled off the stage and fell onto the floor.
The live feed did not capture the fall, but videos taken by the audience show people rushing to Gabrielle's aid. She was quickly wheeled out on a stretcher and taken to the intensive care unit of Paolo Rangsit Hospital.
Gabrielle's hospitalization meant she could no logner participate in the competition. Mexico's Fatima Bosch was eventually crowned in what pageant fans continue to claim is a controversial result.
The main Miss Universe franchise and Gabrielle's family confirmed the practicing ophthalmologist suffered intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other significant injuries.
Miss Universe recently shared that Gabrielle was fit enough to return to Jamaica with a full medical escort team to continue her treatment and recovery, all of which will be covered by the organization.
Last December 20, Gabrielle posted for the first time on Instagram since the Miss Universe preliminaries, confirming she was back in Jamaica.
"In a time that calls for stillness and healing, I am grateful to be in Jamaica and to feel the familiar strength of Jamaica surrounding me," the beauty queen and doctor said.
Gabrielle expressed gratitude for family, friends, and fellow Jamaicans for their prayers and support, the medical team who looked after her in Thailand, medical escorts and airport staff, and members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
"I am reminded that moments of darkness do not diminish vision; they refine it," Gabrielle said, referencing her position as Miss Universe Jamaica and ophthalmology resident. "While I continue to recover, I am inspired by the way Jamaicans rise, undeterred, after adversity."
"In time, more will be shared. For now, my focus remains healing, purpose, and service. Light persists," she ended.
Fatima led the well-wishes for Gabrielle in the comments section saying, "Love you queen, you're so strong I admire you so much."
Fellow Miss Universe 2025 candidates Olivia Yace (Cote d'Ivoire) and Lexie Brant (Australia) also left words of encouragement.
"The one & only. We missed you Queen!!!" briefly said Olivia, who finished as the fourth runner-up despite being a fan favorite and later resigned her position as Miss Universe Africa & Oceania due to controversies hounding the main Miss Universe franchise.
"What a pleasure it is to now call you one of my closest friends," said Lexie. "You are the strongest, most powerful woman I know. You've got the world at your feet my angel, and you deserve it all."
