Beloved sandbox game "Minecraft" is making history once again after its soundtrack has been added to the US Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
Joining the video game soundtrack are Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," the original Broadway cast recording of "Hamilton," and Celine Dion's iconic single for the "Titanic" film, "My Heart Will Go On Forever." These are just some of the standouts from the 25 new additions to the audio archive.
"These are the sounds of America – our wide-ranging history and culture," shares Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in a statement. "The National Recording Registry is our evolving nation’s playlist." Other notable recordings included in the national archive include Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Ready to Die" album, and Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros." theme.
The "Minecraft" soundtrack was made by German musician Daniel Rosenfeld, better known as C418. C418's vision for the game's audio was for the music to be "unintrusive" to the player's game experience. As players enter their world, the music chimes in only at certain moments when exploring or entering new areas. For instance, you could be calmly fishing by a lake when the slow ambient music starts to play, accompanied by a sudden change of weather to fit the mood.
"Minecraft" continues to take the title as one of the best-selling video games of all time with over 350 million copies sold. It recently dominated at the box office with "A Minecraft Movie" starring Jack Black as the game's protagonist, Steve. Though reviews of the film are mixed, several clips from the movie have taken the Internet by storm by way of memes.
