Mikey Williams has not played for TNT for nearly two years as he figured in a contract dispute with the Tropang Giga

MANILA, Philippines – A TNT return remains a target for Mikey Williams, but that happening anytime soon is a big question mark.

Williams made a surprise PBA appearance as he watched his former team claim a 91-86 win over Barangay Ginebra to stay on top of the Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena on Friday, January 17.

“I want to be out there with them. There’s some things that still need to be addressed. Definitely miss them, but it’s love seeing them as well. I just wish I could compete with them. Only time will tell if that’s possible,” said Williams.

Williams has not played for the Tropang Giga for nearly two years since he led the team to the Governors’ Cup championship to end the 2022-2023 season.

Already signed to a three-year extension, Williams prompted negotiations for a new deal, but he and TNT failed to reach an agreement, which resulted in him missing the start of the 2023-2024 season.

The Tropang Giga then proceeded to terminate Williams’ contract.

Williams, though, said his heart still belongs to TNT.

“I always want to be with TNT. No question,” said Williams, who made the First Mythical Team and won Rookie of the Year in his brief stint with the Tropang Giga.

And watching the team he helped win two titles, with a pair of Finals MVP plums to boot, brought back fond memories for Williams.

“Of course, you’re going to miss it. For the last couple of years, I definitely made this a home. Everybody shows so much love to me,” said Williams.

“I miss being out there with my team and everybody that I felt the rapport and brotherhood with.”

For now, Williams is focused on helping the Strong Group Athletics rule the Dubai International Basketball Championship slated from January 24 to February 2. – Rappler.com
