MANILA, Philippines — Mika Dela Cruz opened up about the hard times she endured through all the body shaming she got in the last five years of her trying to lose weight.
The former child actress on Saturday shared her sentiments about people “picking apart” her body. Mika said that in the last five years she tried different diet programs and medical methods but nothing worked for her.
“I had a hard time receiving all the bodyshaming to tell you the truth. It’s painful seeing my body being picked apart online and at times even in person because I knew that it was trying it’s hardest to get me through all the health struggles and systemic inflammation I had.
“I started feeling hopeless, hating my appearance to the point of hiding myself. I gave up on my weightloss journey thinking it would never be possible for me anymore,” Mika wrote on Instagram Saturday.
The actress said she decided let faith lead her to an answer to her body problems, and it led her to meet a doctor that specializes in health-related weight management.
Mika consulted with Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine specialist Dr. Roland Angeles.
The actress said that Dr. Angeles helped her “re-train” the way she ate.
“His diet program will teach you discipline - is sustainable, will not make you feel weak and is gentle while giving true results. He is so confident in what he does and I remember him telling me what to expect before starting at hindi parin ako makapaniwala na ito na ang progress namin together,” Mika said.
The actress refers to big drop of her weight: from 139 lbs. or 63 kilograms to 106 lbs. or 48 kilograms.
She provided a clip of her weight loss journey that showed her progress until today, where she fit her old clothes and now, those same clothes are now loose on her and are twice her current physique.
In the comments section of her post, Mika answered a query about eating rice and using the calorie deficit method.
Mika said that she did not consume carbohydrates during the first few months of her program.
“I had to re-train eating without craving for sugar and carbs. Then eventually nag-shift to Shirataki rice para lang din as a substitute kapag may sabaw ang ulam,” she replied.
Shirataki rice has gained a reputation among health-conscious people for its low-calorie content. Often referred as the “miracle rice,” it is a rice alternative made from the konjac plant. It is said to be composed of water and the soluble fiber called glucomannan.
