Microsoft Edge on Android now supports extensions, catching up with Firefox which added the feature in 2023.
Last year, news broke that Google might eventually bring extension support to Chrome on Android, but that remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the latest update to Edge for Android makes extensions available for users.
Microsoft has been working on this feature since 2024, starting with a limited number of extensions in early builds. With the new stable version, the selection has expanded to over 20 extensions, including popular ones like Dark Reader, Bitwarden, Tampermonkey, NordVPN, and Keepa.
To add extensions on Edge for Android, follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Edge > tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right.
- Select “Extensions” from the menu.
- Browse the list of available extensions and tap the “Get” button next to the one you want.
- Confirm by tapping “Add.”
The extensions feature is still in beta, with more options likely to be added soon. Currently, Edge offers 22 extensions, with the “Explore” section hinting that more will be available soon. If you use an Android tablet, this update could make Edge a strong choice for browsing.
Once extensions are installed, you can manage them through the Extensions menu. Options include enabling or disabling individual extensions, running them in private mode, and adjusting their settings and permissions.
