Following in the footsteps of her legendary father, Michael V., Brianna Bunagan is making her own mark in the entertainment industry with her professional theater debut in "Liwanag sa Dilim."

Stepping onto the professional stage for the first time, she embraced the challenge with passion, proving that her talent goes beyond her famous lineage.

In an interview with GMA Integrated News, she said it's more than just a role — it’s a dream come true.

Though she has experience in college theater and a degree in Theater Arts, performing on a professional stage brings a whole new level of excitement and responsibility.

“This is probably the biggest stage I’ve ever performed on, so it was really exciting. Sobrang na-enjoy ko po. And grabe yung exhilarating na feeling being able to perform in front of an audience for the first time,” she said.

One of the biggest highlights of the production so far has been the positive feedback from Rico Blanco, whose music serves as the heart of "Liwanag sa Dilim."

“I’m thankful that he feels that way. Siyempre, he’s a legend, tapos pinapanood niya something that we’ve been working on these past few months. I’m happy na nagustuhan niya. And sana magustuhan din po ng lahat ng manonood,” Brianna said.

While theatergoers are already raving about the musical, Brianna is especially looking forward to performing in front of her father, Michael V., and mother, Carol “Ayoy” Bunagan.

“I’m really excited for them to see me on stage again. It’s been so long. They’ve been very, very supportive, and I’m just thankful for all the love they’ve given me,” she said.

When asked if she would feel extra nervous knowing they were in the audience, Brianna admitted she might — but in a good way.

“Maybe slight! Pero I like to think na I’m comforted by their presence. Ramdam ko talaga yung support nila.”

Despite being one of the youngest in the cast, Brianna thrives in the presence of experienced theater actors.

“It’s a very inspiring work environment. I’ve done college theater before, but this is a different experience in the professional world. Being surrounded by great artists makes a person a better artist also,” she said.

Beyond being her professional debut, "Liwanag sa Dilim" holds a special place in Brianna’s heart because it's a "transformative journey" — not just for the characters but for everyone involved, including the audience. As an original musical, it carries a powerful message of self-discovery and resilience, themes that resonate deeply with her.

“It’s special because it’s my first professional play. And it’s an original musical written by our director. I always say this in interviews—to generalize the story, it’s a real journey. A journey of discovery and finding the ‘liwanag sa dilim,’” she said.

The musical, also the first production under 9 Works Theatrical for 2025 — will run from Friday to Sunday until April 13, 2025, at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City.

Tickets are available via Ticket2Me, with prices ranging from P2,200 for balcony seats to P3,900 for orchestra center premium. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
