MANILA, Philippines — The historic Manila Metropolitan Theater, better known as the MET, will host free guided tours once a month to show visitors a better glimpse of the Philippines' oldest existing theater.
Last week the MET announced that free guided tours would be offered every third Sunday of the month, the first being this January 18.
Only a hundred registrants will be allowed on each tour expected to last an hour and a half at the most.
Representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, which now supervises and owns the MET, will lead the tours.
Since its inauguration in 1931, the theater went through a number of renovations following the 1945 Bombing of Manila and years-long abandonment during the '50s and '60s.
The MET officially re-opened in 2021 to mark its 90th anniversary. It is now considered a National Historical Landmark as well as a National Cultural Treasure.
The current structure bears most of the original ArtDeco style vision by original architect Juan Arellano, also of his nephews Otillo and Alejandro who supervised the 1978 restoration.
