Meta's AI app can offer a further personalized experience 'if you’ve added your Facebook and Instagram accounts to the same Accounts Center'

MANILA, Philippines – Meta announced on Tuesday, April 29, it had come out with a standalone AI assistant app meant to challenge the likes of ChatGPT while adding an AI-focused tweak that makes AI use seem social media-ish.

This first version of the Meta AI App will let users “experience a personal AI designed around voice conversations with Meta AI inside a standalone app.”

The Meta AI app will allow users to type or talk to it — the voice conversations feature is currently available only in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — to generate answers to their questions, generate images, or bring up search results for particular web queries.

The company also said the app can offer a further personalized experience “if you’ve added your Facebook and Instagram accounts to the same Accounts Center,” if you allow it to draw from either or both accounts.

Voice conversations, for those with the feature, can also be set to demo full-duplex speech technology, which offer more natural voice experiences trained on conversational dialogue and speaks more naturally rather than sounding like it’s reading off a script.

Discover feed

The most likely new draw of Meta’s AI application will be in its Discover feed, which can also share what other people — including your Facebook or Instagram friends — use Meta’s AI for.

According to Meta’s description of the feature, “You can see the best prompts people are sharing, or remix them to make them your own. And as always, you’re in control: nothing is shared to your feed unless you choose to post it.”

Making it a standalone app is ‘intuitive’

In a report from The Verge, Meta has said the Meta AI app isn’t completely new app release, but rather replaces the View companion app for the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.

According to Connor Hayes, Meta’s vice president of product, the company acknowledges most of the usage of Meta’s AI at present comes from its integration into Instagram or Facebook,

Hayes says the chatbot has reached “almost” one billion users through this method, but has acknowledged how a standalone app could benefit the company, seeing as a separating it as its own product would potentially be the “most intuitive way to interact with an AI assistant.”

The Meta AI app is available now on Android or iOS devices. – Rappler.com
