MANILA, Philippines — MPower, a local power retailer under Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has strengthened its decade-long ties with the Gokongwei Group through an expanded power supply deal.

Under the renewed contract, MPower will continue to energize the Gokongwei family’s major facilities across Luzon, providing them with reliable electricity and competitive rates.

The deal covers key JG Summit companies including Cebu Pacific, Universal Robina Corp., JG Summit Olefins Corp., Robinsons Land Corp. and RL Commercial REIT Inc.

Also included in the expanded agreement is Robinsons Supermarket Corp., the supermarket chain under multi-format retailer Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc.

“This agreement goes beyond securing a reliable power supply — it represents our collective commitment to sustainability and innovation,” JG Summit president and CEO Lance Gokongwei said.

The partnership with MPower, he said, would enable the Gokongwei Group to “integrate a 60-percent renewable energy solution into our operations.”

“This is a meaningful step forward in our journey to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to serve Filipino communities through our businesses,” Gokongwei said.

The long-standing ties between the Meralco Group and the Gokongwei family date back to 2013, when MPower first started supplying electricity to flagship companies under JG Summit.

After more than a decade, Meralco chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said the two groups continue to share a “deep commitment to nation-building, innovation and service to the Filipino people.”

“Through all the changes, one conviction has remained constant: that companies like ours must do more than generate value — we must create impact,” Pangilinan said.

“This partnership with JG Summit Holdings, through MPower, reflects that shared purpose as we work together to empower communities and contribute to a stronger, more sustainable Philippines,” Pangilinan added.

The Gokongwei Group is one of the largest diversified business groups in the Philippines, with interests spanning real estate, food manufacturing, petrochemicals, media and air transportation.

MPower, on the other hand, serves contestable customers within Meralco’s franchise area.

As the country’s largest private distribution company, Meralco serves over eight million customers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
