MANILA, Philippines — Many travelers now seek purposeful, impactful journeys with a sustainability-focused itinerary. And you don’t need to book a stay at a high-end resort to embrace mindful travel through eco-conscious choices, wellness-led activities and locally sourced dining.

Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) recently introduced MEGreen Mindful Stays, a program designed for mindful travelers.

A minimum of two-night MEGreen stay features curated experiences, balanced meals and keepsakes that promote sustainable habits. A portion of every booking supports MHR’s partner communities, including Ati Komunidad in Boracay, Project PEARLS in Manila, Coral Reef Care in Mactan and Tagaytay’s Highland Farmers and Forest Guardianship program.

The program is available across all MHR properties, including the new Chancellor Hotel Boracay, a 554-room retreat in Boracay Newcoast located near the iconic Keyhole rock formation.

Experiencing MEGreen Mindful Stays firsthand

As one of the first-ever guests welcomed at Chancellor Hotel Boracay, Philstar.com had the opportunity to experience what a MEGreen Mindful Stay truly means in terms of wellness, sustainability and purposeful relaxation.

Upon arrival, our group was treated to a “mindful lunch” featuring fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables, which introduced us to the hotel’s focus on nourishment and conscious eating.

We then listened to Dr. Marian Alonzo, a holistic health doctor from The Farm at San Benito, who spoke about salutogenesis and how mindful travel contributes to overall well-being.

The afternoon also included a breathing and movement mindfulness yoga session, followed by a 30-minute rejuvenating massage, both designed to relax the body and mind.

Each had an in-room dinner, and I chose a seafood-focused menu, featuring line-caught fish piña-paksiw, grilled vegetables, ginger-lemongrass-turmeric rice, coconut-mango tapioca pudding and island calamansi drink—paired with a quiet SaMaRRa tea-making ritual.

Mornings were equally intentional. I opted for plant-based breakfasts and enjoyed a schedule that allowed for reflection rather than rush, which is a rare treat on media familiarization tours.

We were encouraged to have nature walks to Cove 2 and the Boracay Keyhole, non-motorized water experiences like kayaking, and guided afternoon rest sessions—each pushing the idea that mindful travel is as much about slowing down as it is about exploring.

Lunch the following day highlighted local flavors, from fire-roasted corn and zucchini potage to mare e monti, a carefully plated combination of chicken ballotine, prawn roast, garlic confit, muhammara and mango chutney. Dessert featured platano cinco, or bananas served in five creative ways.

The afternoon’s key highlight was community engagement, which showed that mindful travel extends beyond individual experience to meaningful support of local communities. We attended the Ati Komunidad x Chancellor Hotel Boracay Livelihood Partnership Grant Ceremony and later shared a thanksgiving dinner with the local community.

One of the most meaningful parts of the stay was meeting the Ati women, who recently completed their nito weaving training, a cultural tradition they are working to preserve.

Mindful design and practices at Chancellor Hotel Boracay

The hotel itself embodies mindfulness through its design and operational practices. Sampaguita motifs, natural earthy tones, high ceilings and abundant sunlight create spaces that immediately invite calm.

Guests are encouraged to make small yet significant mindful choices, including:

  • In-room mindfulness: Reuse towels and linens, unplug devices and refill tumblers at hydration stations

  • Mindful experiences: Participate in wellness and sustainability activities, walk to the Cove or Keyhole, paddleboard or kayak, and collect small litter along the coastline

  • Mindful dining: Opt for plant-based or locally sourced dishes, savor every bite and minimize food waste

These practices, simple yet intentional, reflect the broader MEGreen philosophy that mindful actions, multiplied across every stay, can create meaningful impact for the environment and local communities.

Nestled within Boracay Newcoast, Chancellor Hotel Boracay bridges wellness, sustainability and reconnection. It complements the vibrant energy of nearby Savoy Hotel Boracay and the business-meeting focus of Belmont Hotel Boracay, offering guests a serene and intentional alternative.

For those seeking travel that heals, nourishes and empowers, MEGreen Mindful Stays represents a new way to experience Filipino hospitality.
