MANILA, Philippines — Fifteen areas across the Philippines are expected to experience extreme heat on Monday, May 5, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its latest heat index bulletin, PAGASA placed several areas under the “danger” classification, with forecast heat index values ranging from 42°Celsius  to 45°C.

Infanta, Quezon may expect scorching temperatures of up to 45°C.

The following areas are also under the "danger" heat index:

• Bacnotan, La Union: 42°C
• Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City: 42°C
• Iba, Zambales: 42°C
• Masbate City: 42°C
• MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte: 42°C
• TAU Camiling, Tarlac: 42°C
• Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: 43°C
• NAIA Pasay City: 43°C
• Tayabas City, Quezon: 43°C
• Aparri, Cagayan: 44°C
• Dagupan City, Pangasinan: 44°C
• ISU Echague, Isabela: 44°C
• Sangley Point, Cavite City: 44°C
• Tuguegarao City, Cagayan: 44°C

Other parts of the country fall under the “extreme caution” category, with heat indices between 33°C and 41°C, while some will experience “caution” levels, ranging from 27°C to 32°C.

PAGASA urged residents in areas experiencing extreme heat to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest hours of the afternoon. It also advised against engaging in strenuous outdoor activities to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.

LPA to bring cloudy skies, rain

A low-pressure area (LPA) may bring cloudy skies and scattered rain over parts of the country.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located approximately 460 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan.

MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, Batangas, and Quezon may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of a low-pressure area.

PAGASA warned residents in these areas of possible flash floods or landslides caused by moderate to occasionally heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by easterlies.
