MANILA, Philippines — Drag queen Marina Summers reminded Filipinos to set the same standards on selecting beauty queens and elected officials of the country.
Summers is the host of the ongoing Miss Universe Philippines 2026 coronation night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"And tonight I stand here not just as your host, but as someone who loves this stage just as much as you do," Marina said.
"Welcome to the most talked about event in Philippine pageantry. I understand how important this evening is for the people here at the arena and, of course, the people watching at home.
"The stakes are high and everybody is understandably invested in this pageant. Let's just hope that we have the same standards when we elect our country's future leaders. Tama, mali?"
The drag queen also encouraged viewers to join the conversation during the pageant.
"So we encourage you to join the conversation. Trust me when I say we can see all of your comments, memes included. I personally enjoy those. So show all your love, show all your support, and don't forget to enjoy," she said.
"Because what is a party without a little bit of fun? Because this night, it's all about dreams coming true. This night is all about power, so make some noise for this 50 remarkable women representing the best of the what the Philippines has to offer," she added.
Fifty (50) candidates are hoping to succeed Ahtisa Manalo at the end of the coronation night. The winner will represent the Philippines at the diamond edition of Miss Universe in Puerto Rico later this year.
