MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to embody the spirit of valor.
In a statement on Thursday, April 9, Marcos said that the heroism of the soldiers who fought during World War II is not merely a collection of pages in history but a living reminder for the present.
(Today, we remember the courage and sacrifice of Filipinos who stood up for our freedom. In Bataan and Corregidor, they proved that a true hero does not give up despite exhaustion, hardship and grief.)
(Their heroism is not just part of our history. It is a living reminder that the spirit of valor lives on in every Filipino who continues to strive and rise for their family and for the nation.)
He also encouraged Filipinos to embody valor in small yet meaningful ways, such as making the right decisions, helping those in need, and standing up for truth and justice.
(For the true strength of a nation is not measured only by the victories we celebrate, but by how we stand and fight as one nation.)
According to Proclamation No. 1006 signed by Marcos in September 2025, Araw ng Kagitingan is declared a regular holiday.
