CEBU CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to visit Cebu today, Jan. 30, for a series of engagements, including meetings with local government officials, lawyers and business leaders, as well as the inauguration of a key infrastructure project.

The President's first engagement will be a meeting with the Regional Development Council in Central Visayas at the Department of Education (DepEd) Ecotech Center in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, at 9 a.m.

The meeting is expected to tackle major development projects and key economic initiatives aimed at boosting the growth and resilience of the region.

Local government leaders and business representatives are anticipated to present reports and recommendations concerning infrastructure, education and economic development.

At 11 a.m., Marcos will attend the 20th National Convention of Lawyers at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, also in Barangay Lahug. The event gathers legal professionals from across the country to discuss pressing legal issues, policy reforms and developments in Philippine law.

The President is also set to meet with Visayas governors and officials of One Cebu at the Capitol Social Hall in the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Cebu City, at noon. This luncheon meeting provides an avenue for regional leaders to directly engage with Marcos.

In October last year, nine Visayas governors proposed forming a "One Visayas bloc," designating Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia as their leader. This initiative came after their gathering at the Capitol during the opening of Cebu province's 455th founding anniversary, which was attended by first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

The bloc aims to unify the 16 Visayas provinces under a cohesive voice to tackle common regional concerns and advocate for their collective interests at the national level.

The final event in the President's itinerary is the inauguration of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Alternate Runway at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at MCIA Terminal 2, Gate 15 Departure Area, in Lapu-Lapu City.

The completion of this alternate runway is expected to improve airport operations by reducing air traffic congestion, increasing flight capacity and accommodating more international travelers.

Meanwhile, for a separate event, Education Secretary Sonny Angara is also set to arrive at Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School in Cebu City on Thursday for the groundbreaking of the first-ever 12-story medium-rise school building to be constructed in the Visayas.

The event is also expected to be attended by local officials of DepEd and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
