MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will spend the Holy Week in his home province of Ilocos Norte, but is expected to continue monitoring developments and giving orders while out of town.
“For the Holy Week, I will spend a few days in Ilocos Norte. And I will be back in Manila by the weekend,” Marcos said after the opening of the Central Luzon Expressway Contract Package 4 Aliaga-Cabanatuan Section in Nueva Ecija.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said Marcos would still perform his mandate even during the Holy Week.
“He will spend the Holy Week in Ilocos Norte with his family. It will not be a vacation because our President will continue monitoring and issuing directives with regard to the things that government agencies need to do,” the Palace press officer said at a press briefing.
Millions of Filipinos are expected to troop to provinces this Holy Week.
In his Lenten message for this year, Marcos urged Filipinos to keep the faith and to persevere as they face their problems and continue working for the welfare of their families.
He also expressed hope that the observance of the Holy Week would strengthen the Filipinos’ resolve to become “a nation guided by faith, united in purpose and inspired by selfless service.”
