MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. offered a reflective message for the nation on Monday, December 8, as he urged Filipinos and national leaders to ponder on their intentions and seek unity through truth and humility in observance of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In a message marking the holy day, Marcos asked the public to look to Mary as a model of faith and purity, saying her “yes” to God serves as a guide for those entrusted with leading the country.
The president said the feast invites Filipinos to examine how collective choices shape national life.
“Our intentions shape our outcomes… If we sow pride, we reap division; if we sow deceit, we reap distrust,” he said.
Marcos also offered a prayer for government leaders, appealing for guidance and moral clarity.
“Through her intercession, may our leaders be guided by wisdom and discernment, our institutions purified at the root, and our people united in hope,” he said.
He added that his vision of a Bagong Pilipinas—a more just and peaceful nation—depends on beginning “with truth, humility, and compassion for the least among us.”
The president called on officials to draw strength from Mary’s example “as we continue building a nation that places God at its center and holds fast to the dignity of every Filipino.”
Under Republic Act 10966, December 8 is a special non-working holiday to commemorate the Immaculate Conception, the principal patroness of the majority Catholic Philippines.
