MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos is open to meeting with stakeholders to discuss the issues surrounding the Konektadong Pinoy bill, a proposed measure to boost internet access in the country that has triggered concerns over perceived security and regulatory implications.

The bill, which was ratified by Congress this month and only lacks the President’s signature to become a law, seeks to encourage more investments in digital infrastructure, remove barriers to the entry of new service providers and address the “digital divide,” especially in far-flung areas.

The Philippine Chamber of Telecommunications Operators (PCTO) has expressed support for the goal to achieve better connectivity in the country, but has expressed concern over its “unresolved risks.”

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said Malacañang has yet to receive a copy of the bill, but gave assurance that President Marcos would study the measure thoroughly once it reaches his office.

“This will be studied thoroughly for the sake of stakeholders, for our countrymen who need a good internet connection and service providers,” Castro said in a press briefing yesterday. Asked if the President has plans to meet with stakeholders to tackle concerns related to the bill, she replied: “For now, nothing has been relayed to me because he has not read the details of the Konektadong Pinoy bill. Most probably, we can say, because this is for everybody.”
