MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday framed the upcoming midterm polls as a choice between “horror” and a “bright and peaceful future,” as he repeated his attacks against the previous administration while touting the “clean record” of the senatorial candidates of the administration coalition.

Speaking during the campaign rally of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas in Iloilo, Marcos described the candidates of the alliance as “good” and “competent” people who served the public well.

“None of them (Alyansa candidates) is tainted with problems. You won’t hear any bad news about our candidates,” the Chief Executive said. “They have a clean record... That’s why it’s easy to campaign for our lineup.”

Marcos went on to make references about the controversies that hounded the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte, namely the drug war that he said claimed the lives of innocent children, the alleged anomalies in the purchase of medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic, the former president’s pandering to China, and the proliferation of Philippine offshore gaming operators that he said turned the Philippines into a gambling hub for foreigners.

Marcos reminded voters that their choices during the May polls would steer the country’s direction.
