MANILA, Philippines — During the celebration of Eid’l Fitr yesterday, President Marcos called on the Muslim community to “not forget our responsibility to one another.”
In his message, the President said Eid’l Fitr – the Festival of Breaking the Fast – is more than just a celebration, but rather a testament to Filipinos’ desire for shared humanity, strengthening bonds of family and friendship as well as unity.
“Beyond the values that Ramadan emphasized, let us continue to be inspired to extend our hands in service, uplift those in need and help find joy in those who seek it,” Marcos said.
“Only through living with compassion and inclusivity can we appreciate and understand what Prophet Muhammad sought to accomplish – a life where harmony and love prevail upon us all,” he added.
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte hoped that Eid brings peace and happiness to everyone.
“May your prayers be accepted, your sacrifices rewarded and your lives blessed with love and prosperity. May Allah continue to guide us on the path of goodness and unity,” she said in a statement.
Unity and compassion
For Senate President Francis Escudero, Eid’l Fitr is a time for thanksgiving, unity and sharing blessings.
“These are values that transcend religion and should guide us in our daily lives. Apart from thanksgiving, it is my prayer that this day direct us towards peace,” he said.
Former senator Francis Pangilinan, for his part, urged Filipinos to reflect on Prophet Muhammad’s call for compassion, kindness and forgiveness, which transcend religious and cultural boundaries.
In the House, Speaker Martin Romualdez recognized the contributions of Muslim Filipinos to the country’s development.
“We reaffirm our commitment to policies that promote equality, respect and opportunity for all. We will continue to support initiatives that uplift Muslim Filipinos and ensure that your rights and aspirations are safeguarded,” Romualdez said.
“Our Muslim communities play a vital role in shaping our nation’s future. Your commitment to peace, progress and nation-building is deeply valued. As we continue working towards an inclusive and harmonious society, let us recognize the contributions of our Muslim brothers and sisters in fostering economic growth, cultural richness and national unity,” he added. — Cecille Suerte Felipe, Delon Porcalla
