MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will travel to the United States next month for a four-day working visit, Malacañang announced yesterday.
Marcos will be in New York from March 8 to 11, according to Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro.
She said the President will attend the opening of the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
“The President will also deliver a message to the special session of the United Nations General Assembly. The President will also meet with some UN officials,” the Palace press officer said in Filipino at a press briefing.
Marcos last month announced he was diagnosed with diverticulitis, which is characterized by severe pain in the stomach.
“But the doctors’ assessment was good, nothing serious. I just need to build up strength,” Marcos said in a vlog posted on social media on Feb. 1.
In September last year, Marcos cancelled his trip to New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly “to focus on local issues.”
Meanwhile, Marcos led the presentation of the logo for the 80th anniversary of the Philippines-US relations at Malacañang on Monday afternoon.
Among those present at the event were First Lady Liza Marcos, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez, US embassy chargê d’ affaires Y. Robert Ewing, US-Philippines Society co-chairman John Negroponte, Ayala Corp. chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and other government officials.
