MANILA, Philippines — The estranged brother of Senate President Alan Cayetano has been tasked to manage the government’s primary television station as some senators and Malacañang trade barbs over political rifts that derailed the work in the chamber.

President Marcos has appointed television director and former lawmaker Lino Cayetano as general manager of People’s Television (PTV), Presidential Communications Secretary Dave Gomez announced yesterday.

Lino will succeed Maria Lourdes Fagar, who was appointed to the state-run network in August last year.

“Former mayor Cayetano brings with him a rare wealth of experience from the media, the private and the public sector that would certainly take PTV 4 to greater heights in our ever-evolving multi-media landscape,” Gomez said in a statement.

Gomez also thanked Fagar for her service to PTV and the nation.

Lino represented Taguig’s second district during the 13th Congress and served as mayor of the city from 2019 to 2022. He has had a public falling out with Alan, who supported his rival, incumbent Taguig first district Rep. Ading Cruz, during the 2025 elections.

Lino lost his congressional bid during the midterm polls, a defeat he attributed to his brother’s support for Cruz.

Last October, Lino urged Alan to give up power after the senator called on the country’s leaders to quit because of the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.

Lino’s appointment came as members of a Senate bloc led by Alan are accusing the Marcos administration of meddling in the chamber’s affairs, an allegation that the President has denied.

The newly appointed PTV general manager has directed primetime shows for major Philippine television networks, including ABS-CBN, where he served as a director and creative consultant.

He is also the co-founder of Rein Entertainment, where he works as a producer and director. The company describes itself as “a boutique creative house that aims to create and produce engaging stories that inspire conversation and resonate with today’s audiences.”
