MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos inspected yesterday two newly constructed school buildings at the San Francisco High School (SFHS) in Quezon City, one of which replaced the structure destroyed by a fire in June last year.
The four-story Dao building constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways replaced the old two-story structure.
The SM Supermalls-funded Henry Sy Sr. Hall replaced the old Narra building.
The Dao building houses 36 classrooms while the Henry Sy Sr. Hall has 24 classrooms.
Joining the President during the inspection were DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, SM Prime Holdings chairman Hans Sy and SM Supermalls president Steven Tan.
The Department of Education (DepEd) said the school buildings were completed ahead of the opening of classes on June 8, allowing SFHS students to benefit from the fully equipped classrooms.
In his remarks, Marcos lauded the swift construction of the school buildings.
“In the last 30 years, I do not think that we have seen a four-story building constructed in eight months,” Marcos said.
From 10 classrooms, the new buildings now have 60 classrooms, allowing the school to discontinue holding double-shift sessions, Marcos said.
Both school buildings were equipped with a fire sprinkler system that automatically detects and suppresses fires.
Located in Bago Bantay, Quezon City, the SFHS is among the largest public secondary schools in the country. It serves about 6,800 students.
