MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula urged the faithful to join the annual pro-life event “Walk for Life” set for Feb. 23.
Advincula noted the importance of unity, especially during the Jubilee Year, to further promote and protect the sanctity of life.
“As we constantly face numerous threats on the family and life, especially concerning social policies and models, this Jubilee Year is an opportune time to confirm our commitment as pilgrims of hope, advocating the sanctity and importance of life from conception to natural death,” he said.
Participants of the event are asked to assemble at 4 a.m. at the Lawn C, Flower Clock Area of Rizal Park.
The two-kilometer walk will begin at 4:30 a.m., proceeding from Maria Orosa Street, to Muralla Street and finally to Santo Tomas Avenue.
Upon reaching the Manila Cathedral, there will be a short program followed by a mass, presided over by Advincula.
“Through this initiative, our celebration of the Jubilee Year finds a deeper sense and conviction on our journey of hope together as pilgrim people. I invite all parishes and communities, especially our ministries and organizations on family and life, to organize representation for this event,” he said.
The event is organized in coordination with the Manila Cathedral and Radio Veritas.
Last year’s Walk for Life was held from the Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City to the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
