MANILA, Philippines — The Mandarin Oriental is on track to make its comeback and open this year, according to Ayala Land Hospitality.

“Mandarin for sure (will open) this year, depending on market conditions,” Roshan Nandwani, head of marketing at Ayala Land Hospitality told reporters.

Located in the Makati central business district, the hotel is being developed by Ayala Land Inc.

The luxury hotel closed its doors in 2014 after operating for 38 years.

Nandwani said the Mandarin Oriental is expected to cater to leisure and global business travelers.

The hospitality arm of the Ayala Group is closely watching developments in the country’s tourist arrivals.

Citing data from the Bureau of Immigration, the Department of Tourism (DOT) earlier said that the country’s foreign visitors reached 5.94 million last year.

Including returning overseas Filipinos, the DOT said total foreign visitor arrivals reached 6.48 million last year.

Under the National Tourism Development Plan, the DOT was aiming to attract 8.4 million foreign visitors last year.

Last year, Ayala Land Hospitality teamed up with Marriott International to bring the Moxy Hotel brand to the Philippines.

The Moxy Hotel brand is set to debut in Circuit Makati.

Last year, Ayala Group’s hospitality arm also announced that it is bringing the Canopy by Hilton hotel brand to the country.

The Canopy by Hilton hotel will be located at the One Ayala development in Makati.
