MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a man who killed a cat by hanging the animal from an electric post in Pasig on Thursday.
The suspect, a 38-year-old construction worker whom police did not identify, was arrested at his residence in Barangay Santolan.
Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, National Capital Region Police Office director, said the suspect was caught on video hanging the animal from an electric post, which led to the cat’s death.
The incident angered animal welfare advocates and the public, prompting the Pasig police and barangay security force to arrest him.
The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10631 or the Animal Welfare Act.
Aberin urged the public to report other cases of animal mistreatment to authorities.
