CEBU CITY — A joke about infidelity turned deadly when a 70-year-old man attacked his wife with a gun and a bolo, leaving her in critical condition in Sitio Lower Bagdok, Barangay Sagay, on Wednesday night, Feb. 19.
The victim, 65-year-old Marcelina Piala Guarin, was allegedly shot and hacked by her husband, Rodrigo Fajardo Guarin, following a heated argument at the house of her brother.
Police said Rodrigo stormed off after the fight but later returned armed, firing multiple shots at his wife before hacking her in the head and other parts of her body.
Neighbors rushed Marcelina to the Toledo City Hospital while the Special Weapons and Tactics team launched a manhunt.
Rodrigo was later arrested, and police recovered his.38 caliber revolver, a bolo and five empty shells from the gun's cylinder.

Authorities revealed that Rodrigo was consumed by jealousy after a friend allegedly joked about an affair with his wife.
He also claimed Marcelina had been distant from him in recent weeks.
Rodrigo is now detained at the Toledo City Jail and will face frustrated parricide charges, and violations of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, and the Commission on Elections gun ban.
