TINGLAYAN, Kalinga, Philippines — The Makilo Bailey bridge in Barangay Bugnay here collapsed yesterday noon, causing disruption to motorists and the transport of agricultural produce in the Kalinga-Bontoc road system.
The bridge serves as one of the main access points for travelers heading to Bontoc via Tinglayan.
According to the Kalinga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the collapse prompted an urgent closure of the entire road stretch leading to the bridge.
Four days ago, officials in Mountain Province warned of “imminent danger while passing through the bridge” after finding several structural issues.
Investigators have been dispatched to determine the cause of the collapse and evaluate ways to rehabilitate the damaged bridge.
Officials warned the public to avoid the vicinity while inspections continue.
No one was reported injured in the collapse.
