COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two men were killed while three others were wounded in a brief firefight involving two rival Muslim groups in Radjah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said the firefight, which occurred in Barangay Panadtaban, involved followers of former village chairman Norodin Utto and his rival Utap Bontok.
The fatalities were identified as Jeboy Balutintik and King Utto, both followers of the former barangay chairman.
Three of Bontok’s men – Prits and Terrie, both surnamed Abubakar, and Albassir Utto – suffered gunshot wounds, police said.
Reports said relatives of Bontok rushed to the area after hearing a series of gunfires, but they were allegedly attacked by the group of Utto, triggering a firefight.
