Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol told The Manila Times via Viber that while aftershocks were likely from the tremor, damage to property, however, was not expected.
He said the epicenter was 49kms offshore east of the Surigao del Sur municipality, meaning the seismic energy was released far from densely populated areas.
"Also, the highest instrumental intensity that we recorded was only Intensity 4. Damage to buildings starts at Intensity 6," Bacolcol said.
