MANILA, Philippines — In a metropolitan region so accustomed to traffic, actress and entrepreneur Wilma Doesnt believes people can and should make necessary adjustments.
Wilma was recently unveiled as the new brand ambassador for a local motorcycle taxi service during an event highligting the company's certification of safety and reliability as well as efficiency of navigating through Metro Manila traffic.
The actress-entrepreneur explained her support for using motorcycle taxis as they ease the burden of commuters and partner riders are knowledgeable about the streets.
"Wala nang drama, walang mahabang usap-usapin, diretso agad, I save my time and energy, and most importantly nasa-save ang looks natin kasi bawal tayo ma-haggard. Wilma doesn't get haggard, ganern!" Wilma quipped.
She later joked that being stuck in traffic takes away her youth, pointing out by the time she arrives in her destination she feels like dried fish.
Wilma recalled that heavy traffic already existed when she was starting out in the industry as a budding model from the province.
Back then a ride along EDSA from Pasay to Quezon City with no traffic on a Sunday would take just seven minutes, Wilma shared, but travelling at a peak time would take up to six hours because of traffic and the constructions of flyovers and the Manila Metro Rail Transit System.
The actress-entrepreneur quipped again that had motorcycle taxis existed back then, she might have had more time to work and in doing so just be behind the Sy family as the richest Filipino.
"'Pag sinabi mo na 'sorry I'm late because of traffic,' I think that's very lame reasoning," Wilma said. "Sa panahon ngayon we have to adapt. Kung nakikitang may gridlock ang traffic, mag-adjust at mag-adapt, hindi kailangan ang traffic magco-corrupt ng oras niyo or seal your joy for the day."
To end, Wilma reiterated her support of motorcycle taxis because they are fast, riders are professional, and with a final quip stressed their helmets don't smell bad.
