M2M has been in the process of re-recording their music, and in turn, rediscovering their past selves and their friendship.
The Norwegian pop duo Marit Larsen and Marion Raven just released 2025 versions of "Don't Say You Love Me" and "Mirror Mirror" in April. And in the process, Marit told GMA News Online, "it's kind of like going back to the past and giving yourself a hug and rediscovering our songwriters' brains."
The songs were written from when they were 14 to 16 years old, and catapulted them into popstars.
"The songs are so good," Marit added. "I mean, they've really... they've taken on a life of their own since we stopped being a band."
"But still, these songs, they are so good, and it's so fun to pick them apart, put them back together, and update the sound," Marit said. "So it's a little bit more of what M2M sounds like in 2025 and it's a different version."
The EP with the reimagined hits is also different from what the duo performs live at concerts.
"So people are actually getting two reimagined M2Ms this year," Marit said. "It's become the celebration that we were hoping for."
More than that, M2M rekindled their friendship after making it big and then breaking up as a band in 2002.
According to an Instagram post, Marion and Marit bumped into each other by coincidence at a coffee shop in Oslo, Norway in April 2024, and it was kind of like having a red string attached to them all these years.
"Marion had left her apartment early in the morning to deal with a flat tire, Marit was running late for a meeting, and there we were, alone, just the two of us in line, as if the universe was playing us a trick," the duo wrote on Instagram.
Two days later, they spent time together after 23 years and started talking about music and touring again.
Marion told GMA News Online that it felt like their friendship had taken a pause, and then they hit play again.
"Even though we haven't talked for over 20 years, I feel like I know you. We know each other so well, and you know we know each other's, you know, positive [qualities] and weaknesses and everything," she said.
Marion added that their tour so far has been so great because they are there to support each other.
For Marit, "It's kind of like renewing the vows in a marriage."
"Every morning, I wake up and I really look forward to seeing the day's adventures," Marit said. "It feels like we're really compensating after so much time apart. Now we see each other every day, so we're getting to fill in all the blanks. And it's really, it's so much joy and we're looking forward to every day on this tour."
Marion told her, "That's nice to hear because I am actually pretty annoying."
M2M teased their comeback by playing "The Day You Went Away" back in September 2024.
They have a two-night concert on May 1 and 2 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City as part of their The Better Endings Tour. They will then head to Davao's SMX Convention Center on May 3, and then Cebu's Waterfront Hotel on May 4.
Ahead of their concert, M2M thanked Filipino fans for keeping their music alive and that performing here is a dream come true.
