MANILA, Philippines — A government agency has been issued a show-cause order by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for allegedly using a vehicle with a fake red license plate.
The vehicle, a Ford Explorer, which had gone viral on social media, was supposedly registered to the unnamed government agency using the alleged improvised or fake red plate.
Based on the LTO verification, the vehicle was last registered on April 11, 2025.
The LTO ordered the authorized representative of the agency and the delegated driver of the vehicle to attend a hearing on May 13 and explain why they should not be held accountable for administrative cases such as the use of unauthorized improvised plates and compulsory registration.
The driver was also ordered to respond to cases of reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The vehicle has been placed under alarm status while the driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days and must be immediately submitted to the LTO.
“No one – be it a private citizen or a government agency – is exempted from the enforcement of traffic laws. Anyone found violating these rules will be subject to charges and penalties,” LTO chief Markus Lacalinao said. “Government agencies should set a good example in following the law.”
