MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has dismissed as false claims circulating online that it imposed a nearly 100% increase in motor vehicle registration fees without prior notice.

In an advisory, the agency said the information was "fake news," clarifying that no such sudden or unannounced increase has been implemented.

(This statement is not true. The LTO continues to strive to make its services more affordable, especially amid the current economic challenges facing the country.)

The LTO also refuted claims that the supposed hike coincided with rising fuel prices, saying that its fees remain regulated and based on existing laws and government-approved guidelines.

(Registration fees and other LTO transactions are based on government-approved rules and laws and there have been no sudden or unannounced increases in rates.)

The agency urged the public to be cautious in sharing unverified information and to rely only on official sources for accurate updates on its services and fees.

It encouraged motorists to check the LTO’s official website, social media pages, or visit authorized district offices and extension centers for verified information.
