MANILA, Philippines — Up to 116 transit terminal operators have been issued show-cause orders amid nationwide inspections of facilities by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
As of Monday, 243 bus and public utility vehicle terminals have been inspected, LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said.
Operators were issued show-cause orders and notices to comply due to violations, such as “insufficient facilities to secure waiting passengers from weather conditions, comfort rooms that are not working and tight spaces that compromise the comfort and safety of passengers.”
Other terminals lacked security measures and accessibility features for seniors and persons with disabilities, the LTFRB noted.
“We will not hesitate to shut down the operation of these terminal operators. Some of them are connected with transportation companies,” Mendoza said.
“Some of them have reached the point of shamelessness, as if people should have a sense of gratitude for their operation. Some terminals have imposed fees for using lavatories,” he lamented.
Based on the LTFRB’s data, Metro Manila has the largest number of terminals inspected with 40, followed by Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao with 30 each and Calabarzon with 27.
Paper delivery delays
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued guidelines on motor vehicles’ temporary certificates of registration amid the limited supply of security papers.
Delays in the delivery of papers have been encountered by the National Printing Office.
“Rest assured, the LTO is fast-tracking the resolution of the security paper supply issue,” the agency said.
