MANILA, Philippines — A contractual employee of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has been fired for driving against the flow of traffic in Manila.
Citing video footage that went viral on social media, LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said, “There was a clear violation of road safety regulations.”
“We do not condone and tolerate this kind of behavior that does not only show abuse of authority, but also compromises the safety of all road users,” Mendoza added.
Following the issuance of a show-cause order, the Land Transportation Office has suspended the driver’s license of the LTFRB employee for 90 days.
The driver must explain why he should not be charged with reckless driving, driving against traffic and obstruction of traffic.
Meanwhile, a red-plate barangay patrol driver’s license has been suspended for reckless driving.
In another video, the driver can be seen changing lanes without using signal lights.
