MANILA, Philippines — Passengers riding the Light Rail Transit Line 1 could learn a lesson or two in history as the LRT launched its “KasakaySayan” project – a creative advocacy that transforms the daily commute into an immersive journey through Philippine history and culture.

Commuters now get to hear about historic places and people in each of the LRT-1’s 25 stations.

For example, at the Dr. Santos station, the southern tip of LRT-1, a voiceover narrates that the station was named after Dr. Arcadio Santos, a native of Parañaque who became governor of Rizal from 1920 to 1922 when the city was still part of the province.

The station is close to the Dr. A. Santos Avenue, also called Sucat Road, according to the Light Rail Manila Corp. or LRMC.

“With ‘KasakaySayan,’ we are inserting vital factual information into the daily routine of our commuters, addressing the need for accessible education about our country’s relevant places and people. This project truly embodies our commitment to making history a part of every Filipino’s journey,” said LRMC external relations head Elaine Tiu.
