MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted west of Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte is forecast to bring widespread rains and thunderstorms over parts of the Visayas, Mindanao and Southern Luzon today.

As of yesterday, the LPA was located 235 kilometers off the western coast of Dipolog.

Weather models indicate that it will move across Palawan by tonight and exit into the West Philippine Sea by early Monday, where it is expected to gradually dissipate.

Despite its weakening state, the system will continue to affect weather patterns across the country over the next 24 hours.

Rains are expected across the Visayas, Mindanao, Quezon, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region and Batangas, prompting authorities to urge caution, particularly in landslide and flood-prone areas.

Localized thunderstorms may lead to flash floods and hazardous travel conditions in low-lying communities.

By Monday, the LPA’s influence is forecast to fade, giving way to partly cloudy to cloudy skies over most of the country with isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours.

In Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, easterly winds continue to dominate, bringing hot and humid conditions, especially during midday and early afternoon.

Afternoon downpours, caused by localized convection and heating of the land, remain likely and may vary from city to city. While some areas like Quezon City may experience rain, neighboring locations such as Valenzuela could stay dry.

The heat index across Luzon, particularly in urban centers like Metro Manila, remains under the danger category. Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Today’s temperature in Metro Manila is expected to range from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius. Baguio will be cooler at 17 to 26 degrees Celsius, while Tuguegarao may reach highs of 36 degrees Celsius.

In Southern Luzon, Tagaytay is forecast at 22 to 30 degrees Celsius and Legazpi at 26 to 31 degrees Celsius. Continued cloudy skies are expected over the region.

Palawan, too, will experience overcast skies due to the LPA. Puerto Princesa and Kalayaan Islands will see temperatures ranging from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius.

In the Visayas, Tacloban is forecast at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius and Cebu at 26 to 30 degrees Celsius, both under cloudy skies. Rain is expected to ease by Tuesday.

In Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro will see temperatures between 24 and 31 degrees Celsius, while Davao ranges from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. These areas, affected by the LPA today, are expected to return to partly cloudy skies by midweek.
