MANILA, Philippines — After a long battle with kidney disease, veteran showbiz columnist and talent manager Lolit Solis passed away on Thursday at the age of 78, her family announced in a statement.
“Manay Lolit leaves behind a loving family and many friends who will always cherish her memory,” her family said.
They described Solis as “a feisty and staunch loyal supporter, manager and friend.”
“We love you, our dearest Manay. You will forever be in our hearts. Rest well now in the loving embrace of our Lord,” the statement declared.
Since 2022, Solis had been receiving dialysis treatment at the FEU-NRMF Medical Center in Novaliches, Quezon City.
In 2023, Solis revealed she had an acute kidney infection.
Solis started as a reporter in the 1970s covering the police beat. She later crossed over to entertainment reporting at The Philippine STAR and Pilipino STAR Ngayon.
She was also a talk show host on several television and radio programs, among them “Startalk,” which earned her recognitions including the Best Female Showbiz Talk Show Host award.
She likewise appeared in films such as “My Kontrabida Girl” (2012) and “Lost Command” (1988) and TV series such as “Daboy en Da Girl” and “Lyra.”
Meanwhile, the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) has expressed their sympathies on the passing of Solis.
“Nanay or Manay Lolit, as we called her with genuine love and respect, was a fearless, unapologetic and unforgettable figure – not just in showbiz, but throughout the country. A celebrity in her own right, she captured people’s attention with her boldness, her sharp wit and her unique way of telling stories,” said SPEEd in a statement.
“For the entertainment press in particular, she shaped the industry through her work as a columnist, talent manager and TV host, leaving her mark on all of us who cover this beat today. More than that, Nay Lolit was with us from the very beginning of The Eddys. She supported us like a mother – guiding us, encouraging us and always standing by us as we worked to build these awards for the industry she loved with all her heart,” the organization added.
With her valuable contribution to the industry, the SPEEd will always be grateful to her “and even more so for the genuine concern, kindness and love she showered upon so many of us.”
SPEEd thanked their “Nanay” for everything she had done for them as well as for the entertainment business, saying, “Thank you, Nanay, for everything you shared with us – your stories, your wit, your guidance, your love and the many lessons that will stay with us. May you rest in peace, knowing you are deeply loved and that your place in our hearts and in Philippine showbiz is forever.”
