THE Liwanag sa Diliman initiative is a weeklong event open to the public at UP Diliman from Jan. 27 to 31, 2025. This is the project's first installment and is spearheaded by UP Alyansa ng mga Mag-Aaral para sa Panlipunang Katwiran at Kaunlaran (UP Alyansa) in partnership with the ATIN ITO Coalition to shed light on the plight of fisherfolk community in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The event will start with a panel discussion at UP Diliman's Palma Hall Lobby on Jan. 27, 2025, for civil society organizers and fisherfolk representatives to share their firsthand experiences navigating our maritime waters amid persistent militarization and occupation efforts by the China Coast Guard.
Speakers include Atin Ito! Coalition Co-Convener Edicio de la Torre and journalist and filmmaker Gretchen Ho.
Aside from a panel discussion, there will also be a film screening of ATIN ITO Coalition's two most recent civilian-led missions in the West Philippine Sea. Participants of the event are also encouraged to make either cash or in-kind donations at various drop boxes located around UP Diliman from Jan. 27 to 31, 2025, to show appreciation to our frontliners in the West Philippine Sea and their families.
