MANILA, Philippines – The second day of the conclave to elect the successor of the late Pope Francis on Thursday, May 8, is expected to have four rounds of voting — twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon, Vatican time.
Smoke from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel will come out after the first two rounds of voting, and again after the last two rounds of voting for the day if no pope is elected in the morning.
The Vatican is 6 hours behind Manila. Smoke from the first two rounds could emerge around 4:30 to 6:30 pm, Manila time, and smoke from the last two rounds may be seen around 11:30 pm to 1 am of the following day, Manila time.
Black smoke from the chimney will mean that cardinal electors have not yet chosen the 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church, while white smoke will mean that there is already a new pontiff.
Black smoke had emerged after the first round of voting as the conclave began on Wednesday, May 7.
