Ginebra vs TNT – PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, Game 3

With the best-of-seven series knotted at 1-1, the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings and the TNT Tropang Giga vie for control in Game 3 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals

MANILA, Philippines – And it’s all tied up.

With the best-of-seven PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals knotted at 1-1, the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings and the TNT Tropang Giga vie for control in Game 3 on Wednesday, March 19, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Ginebra avoided falling into a 0-2 hole after hacking out a tight 71-70 Game 2 win last Sunday, March 16, behind the efforts of Justin Brownlee.

Brownlee exploded for a game-high 35 points in the low-scoring affair as the Gin Kings put on a defensive masterclass against the Tropang Giga, limiting them to only 19 points in the first half, including a 4-point second quarter output.

“Coach has been saying it’s going to be a defensive series. Some games, we’re just going to have to win ugly, and I think that was a perfect example tonight,” said Brownlee.

“I think if we want to continue having success in this series, I think it’s going to be very important we use all our effort we can on defense and just try to, I guess, make the game ugly,” he continued.

As Ginebra looks to lock down TNT anew in Game 3, the Gin Kings should be wary of a vengeful TNT side, led by Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who is eager to redeem himself after his late-game errors in Game 2.

With the Tropang Giga staring at a 70-71 disadvantage with under a minute left to play, Hollis-Jefferson failed to put up a shot in two separate crucial possessions for the potential go-ahead and game-winning baskets.

“That’s on me. That’s something I want to get better at, you know” said Hollis-Jefferson of his endgame blunders.

“They don’t want me to get the shot off the last seconds. They knew I wanted to shoot the ball, but when I lost it, I just couldn’t pick it back up, and rest was history,” added Hollis-Jefferson, who finished with 25 points on an awful 6-of-25 shooting.
