Former president Rodrigo Duterte is set to come back to the Philippines from Hong Kong aboard a commercial flight landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday, March 11, according to a post from his former spokesperson Harry Roque.

The Philippine police went to the airport Monday, March 10, to prepare for the arrival of the former president, which indicates that preparations are underway if there is a need to enforce a warrant. Duterte’s war on drugs and the Davao Death Squad (DDS) have been the subject of an eight-year probe at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC had supposedly issued an arrest warrant against Duterte, who was in Hong Kong over the weekend to campaign to Filipinos there. All eyes are on the Interpol which, by process, can be requested by the ICC to put out a red notice alert against the former president. The Marcos government had signified willingness to implement a warrant if it is coursed through the Interpol.

This is the first time in Philippine history that the Philippines is being investigated by an international tribunal, and Duterte may just be the first Filipino head of state to be deemed wanted by the Court.
