MANILA, Philippines — The International Criminal Court (ICC) Appeals Chamber will render its decision on Friday, November 28, on former president Rodrigo Duterte’s appeal for interim release.
Duterte, who waived his right to be personally present at the hearing, will be represented by his legal counsel, Nicholas Kaufman.
According to court documents, the decision addresses whether the former president’s detention should be maintained or if interim release can be granted under conditions.
The verdict comes after the pre-trial court’s earlier rejection of his request on September 26, when justices deemed him a flight risk and potential threat to witnesses.
ICC officials clarified that the ruling pertains only to interim release and does not alter the status of the main case on crimes against humanity.
Watch the ICC ruling at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28.
