“Live A.I.D.S.” or “Ang Istoryang Dinebelop ng SAMASKOM” proved once again that sharp wit, no-mercy cultural commentary, and creative, fearless satire can come together to create a memorable experience for the audience.

Live A.I.D.S.: A Laugh Story" held its 2025 red carpet premiere on Thursday evening in Quezon City. It is produced by the University of the Philippines’ Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Komunikasyon (UP SAMASKOM), which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Here are five things you should watch for in this comedy-musical spectacle.

1. Candidate 'no-no’s' delivered by a beloved fairy tale princess

Gearing up for the 2025 elections, the show dove headfirst into the red flags we should all be watching for in candidates.

Through a beloved fairy tale princess reimagined with sharp wit, "Live A.I.D.S." unpacked familiar campaign tactics, also reminding the audience not to sell their votes.

2. A touching look at mental health

Aside from political references and reminders, the show also put a spotlight on mental health in a way that’s both sensitive and thought-provoking, all while not losing its signature humor.

3. Nurses get their spotlight

"Live A.I.D.S." also showed that comedy can be a tribute.

This year’s run highlighted the important role of nurses, who have seen all stages of our lives, from our first breath down to the last. With heartfelt humor and well-deserved recognition, the show honored Filipino nurses’ sacrifices and resilience.

4. AI mention

Talk about staying updated with current events! "Live A.I.D.S." also tackled the growing presence of AI through a hilarious face-off between a seasoned librarian and an AI assistant.

5. Show-stopping song and dance numbers

Of course, “Live A.I.D.S.” is not complete without its musical productions. Expect tight choreography and vocal chops that feel especially grand, perfectly timed to match UP SAMASKOM’s 50th anniversary this year.

“Live A.I.D.S.” 2025 is directed by UP SAMASKOM alumnus John Kenneth De Leon.

He likened the famed comedy theater show to a “modern bodabil.”

“We use comedy meaningfully, meaning we’re not just here to entertain, but we are also here to make a comment on what’s happening in the society. Because this is the 50th anniversary of the organization, we are doing our best to make it grand to celebrate the 50 years of storytelling ng ‘Live A.I.D.S.,’” he said.

“Live A.I.D.S.: A Laugh Story” will run until May 11 at the KAL Theater, Roces St., University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
