The Senate impeachment court's subpoena covers at least 20 companies linked to the Vice President and her husband, Mans Carpio. Meanwhile, the subpoena request for the financial records of two other companies is denied.
MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment court on Monday, July 20, ordered the subpoena of the financial records of companies linked to Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Mans Carpio.
The financial records — including bank and tax records — are among the pieces of evidence House prosecutors hope to use to support their allegation that Duterte accumulated unexplained wealth.
The following companies are covered by the subpoenas:
- Metro City Chow Food Corporation
- City Hall King Chow Foods Corporation
- Gencorp Industries, Inc.
- Timesquare Bee Foods Corp.
- Great Jolly Times Food Corp.
- Carpio Lawyers (formerly Carpio & Duterte Lawyers)
- 888 Bistro
- CALE88 Foods Corporation
- Madayaw Fisheries, Inc.
- Mati City Ice Plant and Cold Storage, Inc.
- Amianan Shores, Inc.
- Geometry Security and Investigation Agency, Inc.
- Cabletow 88 Shipping and Marine Services, Inc.
- Davao New Royal Taipan Corp.
- Davao Emerging Taipans Corp.
- Davao Bounty Times Food Corp.
- SGT Fortune Horse Corp.
- CYKT, Inc.
- 3Kids Trucking Services, Inc.
- Zelta Matiem Salon
The impeachment court, however, denied the request to subpoena the financial records of Pikimong Pikimong Philippines Corporation and JTC Group of Companies. The court said the companies’ General Information Sheets do not list either Duterte or Carpio as incorporators, directors, officers, or shareholders. The two companies are also not declared on Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.
The court also denied the prosecution’s request to subpoena the couple’s dollar deposit accounts, citing the confidentiality protections under the Foreign Currency Deposit Act.
However, the impeachment court granted the request to subpoena Duterte’s and Carpio’s income tax records from 2007 to 2021, saying these could help establish a comparative baseline of the couple’s wealth. – Rappler.com
