Light Phone III Debuts March 27 with Upgraded Features

1 day ago 7

Light, known for its minimalist approach to mobile technology, is set to launch its latest device, the Light Phone III, on March 27. Designed to help users disconnect from the overwhelming distractions of modern smartphones and social media, the new model builds on its predecessor’s simple, functional design while introducing several noteworthy upgrades.

While retaining the familiar black-and-white aesthetic, the Light Phone III replaces its traditional e-paper display with a vibrant 3.92-inch AMOLED screen that promises clearer visuals and improved responsiveness. Beyond the display upgrade, the device now includes a camera and an NFC chip, paving the way for future payment capabilities. These enhancements are complemented by improvements in repairability—users can now access the battery and easily replace the screen and USB port, addressing one of the longstanding concerns among minimalist phone enthusiasts.

The company has also focused on usability and ergonomic design, making the phone roughly the same width as most iPhones for a more comfortable grip. Light co-founder Joe Hollier highlighted that despite the move to an AMOLED display, the device will still capture many of the beloved characteristics of its e-ink predecessor, ensuring a distinct and pleasant user experience without the glare of typical smartphone screens.

For those who appreciate versatility, the Light Phone III remains an unlocked device, giving users the freedom to decide whether to adopt it as their primary phone or keep it as a reliable backup when they need a break from constant connectivity. In addition to its hardware updates, the phone continues to offer essential functions such as calls, texts, navigation, alarms, a calendar, and even music, all tailored to support a more focused lifestyle. Light also offers its own data plans starting at $30 per month for 1 GB of data.

However, these upgraded features come at a higher price point. The Light Phone III will launch at $599 for a limited time, with the price set to rise to $799 later, reflecting the enhanced capabilities and improved build quality. The full specifications include a compact design measuring 106mm x 71.5mm x 12mm and weighing just 124g, a robust Qualcomm SM 4450 chipset, 5G + 4GLTE connectivity, 128GB storage paired with 6GB RAM, and a battery capacity of 1800 mAh—all encased in a premium mix of aluminum, glass, and recycled plastic with an IP54 rating.

For consumers in the Philippines, the Light Phone III has not yet received an official local launch. However, interested buyers can still purchase the device through Light’s official website or reputable international online retailers that offer shipping to the Philippines. As the trend towards digital minimalism gains momentum, the Light Phone III stands out as a unique offering for those looking to simplify their digital lives without sacrificing essential functionality.
