Lea Salonga is among the honorees and nominees at this year's Drama League Awards!
The Tony and Olivier award-winning actress was nominated for the Distinguished Performance Award for "Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends," a production in celebration of late composer and lyricist.
Lea is just among the many artists vying for the prestigious award, which also includes Filipino-American artists Darren Criss ("Maybe Happy Ending") and Nicole Scherziger ("Sunset Blvd."), Latina and Filipino-American artist Tatianna Córdoba ("Real Women Have Curves"), and Lea's co-star Beth Leavel.
"Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends" was also nominated for Outstanding Production of a Musical.
Lea is also an honoree at this year's Drama League Awards, where she is is set to receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater.
Other honorees include Kate Navin and Audible Theater (Contribution to the Theater Award), Whitney White (Founders Award for Excellence in Directing), and Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron (Gratitude Award).
On Instagram, she expressed her joy over her nomination.
"Wait……. WHAT????? What an amazing thing to wake up to!!!!! Congratulations to [Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends] on our Drama League nominations (yes, with an S!) and to all the nominees this season!!!!!!!!!!!" she wrote in the caption.
Lea will star in the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods" this coming August. She will play The Witch, while her child, Nic Chien, will play the role of Jack.
The Drama League Awards, known as the oldest theatrical honor in America, has recognized exceptional stage productions on and off-Broadway since 1935.
The 2025 Drama League Awards will be held on May 16 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City, United States.
